Presenting 1927

As part of our assessment, we were each required to host a 10 minute presentation about an animation-related topic, the sky being our limit. A topic that immediately came to mind was the use of animation in live performance, and more specifically animation in the context of theatre.

Over the Christmas period, I had watched a performance by theatre collective 1927 Cabaret at Battersea Arts Centre. I was blown away by their clever combination of animation and live performance to create a whole new world and a place where the endless limits of creative animation and performance could be explored.

I was lucky enough to get the chance to have a chat with Animator and co-founder of the company, Paul Barritt, who kindly agree to meet me for an interview. Upon meeting we decided that 1927 deserved something much more interesting than a dull power point presentation, so we combined our creative powers and came up with an idea that would better fit with the 1927 aesthetic.

Overall, I found this to be a fantastic experience. I got to learn all about a company that I really love and respect, as well as being able to learn some basic stop motion techniques, master my sound and editing skills and discover some new exciting visual effects.
