An exercise set by my tutors as part of my illustration sessions at the Putney School of Art, was to create a character, who, whilst visiting the British Museum, is trapped, and stumbles in the path of an/various 'artwork/s' (of our choice), which come/s to life. The illustration was to be executed in a comic strip or storyboard format.
I thoroughly enjoyed this exercise. It seemed simple at first, but then the realisation of the task set in. I almost likened it to making a film or animation, most of the same considerations are applied, except instead of shooting it on film, it needed to be drawn, which despite being arduous, is quite handy because you can make your characters do anything you want them to do!
