Cultivated Cavemen

When asked to rehabilitate a character from history or a favourite story, my thoughts took me back to the humble caveman - probably due to the inordinate amount of time I have spent at the Natural History Museum.

The Neandertal (correct spelling - another relatively unknown truth) is our closest relative, who since their discovery, has suffered from an onslaught of undeserved bad press - no doubt from many insecure homo sapiens out there! Turns out we can thank them for our ability to communicate today. So, because creative communication is my favourite thing, I thought I'd repay them in rehabilitation. Below is the image and copy I developed.

This project was great fun, I learnt a lot about cavemen (another random fact to add to the database), and how to create a compelling image/story partnership in editorial context. It demonstrates how images can be utilised to help the story along, as well as further spark imagination and engagement from the reader. I'm sure this one will send a few minds soaring - hopefully the NT News don't get wind of it, they'll probably think it's a factual piece. Might be a fresh change from yowies, ufos and crocs though!
